Nurturing Artists. Preserving Tradition

About

A living Bharatanatyam tradition

“We are not merely teaching steps — we are entrusting a legacy.”

Kalā Pātashāla is a Bharatanatyam school in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), Kerala. Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest classical dance traditions of India — a sacred confluence of movement, music, devotion, and storytelling. At Kalā Pātashāla, we see ourselves as torchbearers: guardians of this living heritage, dedicated to passing it forward with full integrity under the guidance of professional performers Uma Govind and Vidhun Kumar.

Our belief

Why Kalā Pātashāla

Art should be learned for its own sake — as a journey of self-exploration, not as something to measure against others. That is why Kalā Pātashāla does not encourage or take part in dance competitions.

This school is for students who deeply yearn to learn. It offers access to guru parampara — in a gentle, welcoming space, free of tension, where the art can be imbibed without compulsion.

This is what their own teachers gave them, and what shaped them as professional dancers. It is the same gift they hope to pass on to the next generation.

Services

What we offer

  • Regular Classes

Open to interested students from age 6 up to 50. The gurus teach every class themselves — and because they are active performers, slots are limited and only a select number of students are taken.

  • Arangetram

For students who have learned the art form and wish to present their debut — the school undertakes Arangetram with the care and ceremony this milestone deserves.

  • Performances

Invitations are welcomed for private cultural programmes. The gurus perform themselves, and also send their top students to such venues.
